Benefits of ‘Hi-Tech’ Agriculture!

The ‘Future Crops’ formed by the Israeli-Dutch alliance is a different initiative. It is a high-tech farming system that grows a variety of greens indoors, vertically. Located in the Westland region of the Netherlands, the farm covers an area of 8,000 square meters and operates on nine floors. Although the cultivation takes place in a dark arena where direct sunlight is not available, only the colored lights that receive solar power and burn in it help in the photosynthesis of the lettuce crop.

Computers and agronomists mount LED lights on each type of lettuce plant, seven of the seven colors in the sunlight, which determine the type of color needed and give that color. Similarly, at night, the plants are considered to be dormant and the lights are turned off for a sufficient period of time. Knowing the needs of each plant, they pour the nutrients under computer control.

Future Crops officials said the yield was “excellent, tasty and healthy.” This is how future agriculture will be.
