Australian authorities will require social networks to issue contacts of Internet provocateurs

“The Internet world should not be the wild west, where bots, fanatics, trolls and others walk around anonymously and can harm people,” said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

The new law provides for the introduction of a complaints mechanism. Anyone who thinks they have been defamed, trolled or intimidated on social media will be able to demand that the platform remove the material. If the content is not removed, the court can force the social network to provide information about the author.

The Australian Supreme Court recently ruled that the media are responsible for comments and messages posted on their public pages and forums.
