The researchers hope that the development will help discover hitherto unexplored caves or underground passage systems with new animal remains.
The spider robot is designed in such a way that it does not damage the surface of the caves and, in principle, leave as few traces as possible from its “paws”. Therefore, he was equipped with 6 limbs, like a real spider, which are equipped with soft attachments. The developers abandoned wheels and tracks for the robot’s gentle movement through caves and so that the device could pass through difficult and uneven terrain.
In the future, the “spider” will be transferred to other specialists to equip it with artificial intelligence.
