Apple Pay may appear in third-party browsers – support is already in the latest beta of iOS 16

Apple Pay may finally be compatible with Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox web browsers in the latest iOS 16, according to industry media. MacRumors found that the payment system works with Edge and Chrome web browsers in a recent test build iOS 16 beta 4.

He showed a screenshot that said “Continue with Apple Pay” while the reception page was open in the Edge browser. Currently, Apple Pay only works in the proprietary Safari browser. At least this is true for iOS 15 and older. But in the latest beta of macOS, there is no support for third-party browsers yet.

Moser didn’t mention Firefox in his post, but other users noticed the browser’s compatibility with Apple Pay prior to the release of iOS 16 beta 4. This was reported on Reddit a month ago, and it was still in iOS 16 beta 3.

It is possible that Apple is preparing for the enactment of the law on digital markets, which will come into force in the spring of 2023 and will set the “rules of the game” for companies such as Apple, Google and others.
