Apple may start manufacturing iPad in India

The American smartphone and tech company has been exploring options for moving some part of production out of China for the past few years. The company’s iPhone is produced in India. It is also considering starting manufacturing of iPad in the country. However, Apple may have to face some difficulties in this.

According to a media report, Apple has started talks with the authorities in India. However, there are some hurdles in the company’s plan to increase production in the country. This includes expertise for manufacturing of iPads. company Has not finalized any plan but talks are on regarding the possibility. Apple is making efforts to increase its manufacturing outside China and if the obstacles are removed, the manufacturing of iPad can start in India. However, the report states that this path will not be easy as there is a shortage of highly skilled workers in the country to make complex devices.

Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India for almost five years. Some variants of the iPhone 14 launched by the company in September are also being manufactured in the country. There may be a huge reduction in the production of iPhone this year. Worker unrest and sabotage over poor conditions at Foxconn’s factory in Zhengzhou, China, which does contract manufacturing for Apple, has had a major impact on production. Due to this, the production of iPhone Pro may decrease by about 6 million units this year.

Production will depend on getting Foxconn workers back on the assembly lines soon and the lockdown imposed due to Corona. Most of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are produced in this factory. Both these smartphones have been the most sought after for Apple this year. This factory once contributed to about 85 percent of the production of the Pro variants of the iPhone. Last month, more than 20,000 workers resigned from this factory of Foxconn, Apple’s largest contract manufacturer.
