According to insiders, Google is working on a new Android feature designed to protect smartphone users from surveillance using compact trackers like the Apple AirTag. The mention of the future innovation was discovered by enthusiasts when decompiling the APK file of the Google Play test build.
The application code included a line with the text “Warning about an unfamiliar device”, as well as Tile, Finder and ATag tags – two of them are clear references to the “beacons” of the Tile and Apple brands. According to available information, we are talking about the introduction in Android of the function of automatically detecting nearby trackers. As soon as your smartphone “notices” an unknown device nearby, it will alert the owner with a corresponding notification.
A similar option has already been implemented in iOS – Apple smartphones can find extraneous “beacons” next to the iPhone user, but scanning is done manually and takes up to 10 minutes. Google itself has not yet announced this feature – it is expected that more details about it will become known during the May I / O 2022 conference.
