Android 15 will feature one of the new iPhone’s features

The test build of Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2 introduces a new page in the system settings section, dedicated to an unannounced feature. This feature, already familiar to owners of iPhone 14 and 15, as well as some flagships of other brands, enables users to stay connected even outside the coverage area of the cellular network.

This feature allows users to exchange messages using satellite communications. Based on a screenshot published by the Android Authority portal, these messages can be sent to any user, not limited to emergency services. However, users need to activate the appropriate service from their operator. Although the beta version of the OS mentions the provider T-Mobile, the corresponding link to its website is inactive.

The updated settings menu clarifies that satellite communications are available only in certain regions and require user account registration. Rumors suggest that this feature could involve the Starlink network, given SpaceX’s collaboration with T-Mobile. Additionally, Google has previously invested in AST SpaceMobile, another satellite communications service provider. The smartphones that will support this innovation remain unknown at this time.
