Analyst: Microsoft is losing to Sony in console sales, but will win money

In the current generation, Microsoft is again losing the console race to Sony – last year it managed to sell only a third of the supply of a competitive device. However, analyst Michael Pachter urges us not to look at the battle of the two giants from this angle.

Pakter assures that victories and defeats in the modern battle of platforms no longer come down to bare shipments of consoles. Market leaders are looking at the future differently, trying to master as many different segments as possible. And here Microsoft makes confident victories, against the background of which good sales of the PlayStation 5 do not look like a decisive factor.
“Winning the battle of consoles is not a priority for Microsoft. The company wants to lead the gaming business by bringing games to three billion people, not three hundred million.
It’s moving toward a future where the Xbox platform isn’t tied to any single device, and I think it’ll do just fine there. For Game Pass to work as widely as it does, it would need to drop the price from $15 to $10 and then offer a $5/month option with ads.

The idea that Microsoft lost to Sony is wrong. She lost the console race. If you measure success by device sales, then it is possible. But the question here is who will earn more money. And the winner will be Microsoft, which will be able to earn tens or hundreds of times more,” says Pakter.

Let us recall that Microsoft previously revealed its strategy for releasing Activision Blizzard games on Game Pass. They will be released in full, including flagships like Call of Duty.
