An enthusiast added one of the functions of modern video cards to the GeForce RTX 20 and GTX 16

A developer known by the nickname xCuri0 has created an unofficial UEFI driver for older motherboards. This driver enables owners of older NVIDIA video cards to enhance gaming performance using Resizable BAR technology, which is typically only available by default for newer hardware.

NVIDIA

The driver, called NVStrapsReBar, activates Resizable BAR on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 and GTX 16 series video cards. This allows the processor in such a PC to access the entire VRAM capacity at once, rather than accessing individual blocks sequentially. Officially, this technology is supported only on RTX 30 series and newer video cards.

According to NVIDIA, using Resizable BAR with the RTX 3080 can yield up to an 11.9% increase in performance, depending on the specific game being played. However, NVStrapsReBar developer claims that theoretically, the performance increase could be even higher (up to 24%). Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that in certain games, the frame rate may decrease.

The enthusiast has published instructions and all necessary files for “upgrading” video cards on GitHub. Previously, they had “upgraded” a PC based on an Intel processor and a Radeon video card in a similar manner.
