An engineer made a truly smart home [VIDEO]

The unique living space can continuously rotate around its axis. Located near Maraetai Beach in Auckland, New Zealand, the house was designed by Don Dunic back in the 1990s, but he was able to implement all the ideas only many years later.

The Lighthouse sits on a rotating platform that can be activated with the press of a single switch. It takes approximately 33 minutes to complete a full revolution around its axis. There is also a “second speed” when the house rotates in 15 minutes.

The platform is equipped with a smart sensor system, thanks to which the structure can be activated automatically. This is done to make the most of the sun’s heat or cool breeze to maintain an optimal climate in the rooms. The Lighthouse consists of two floors with a spiral staircase in the center. Most of its walls are glazed. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, living room and bathroom. On the second floor there are three bedrooms. Each floor is equipped with a balcony.

The most impressive thing is that the author of the project managed to implement all communications to make the Lighthouse suitable for long-term living. While working on the house, he had to solve several atypical engineering problems. For example, to implement a system of water pipes and electrics that is unique for such a design. In addition, Dunic needed to convince local authorities that it was safe and practical.

The Lighthouse is now up for sale. The approximate cost of the house is unknown, but it is estimated to be worth $600,000.
