Amazon’s Robots Will Soon Deliver Packages to Your Door—Replacing Humans?

The way packages are delivered may soon look very different. Amazon is working on humanoid robots that can jump out of delivery vans and carry packages straight to your doorstep. These robots are being tested in San Francisco, at a dedicated space called “Humanoid Park.” They are designed to work with Amazon’s Rivian electric delivery vans and are currently part of an experimental program. This test suggests that delivery services could eventually shift toward automation.

At the moment, Amazon is using Unitree G1 robots, each costing around $16,000 (about ₹13 lakh). According to The Guardian, these robots have two arms and two legs and are built to move like humans. They can step out of a van on their own, lift packages, and take them directly to customers—without help from people. The robots are also being tested in places with obstacles to prepare them for real-world conditions.

Amazon has said that this technology is still in its testing phase. For now, it won’t affect the jobs of current delivery drivers. Until these robots are fully reliable, human drivers will continue to handle van operations.

Earlier, these robots were only being used inside Amazon warehouses. Now, the same technology is being extended to doorstep delivery. This is part of Amazon’s long-term plan to cut costs and make deliveries faster.

Currently, Amazon has around 275,000 delivery drivers in the United States and over 1.5 million worldwide. If this new system proves successful, it could lead to big changes in how deliveries are made in the future.
