Airtel and Reliance Jio’s bat-bat, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of customers

Telecom Regulatory TRAI said in its monthly report on Thursday that the total number of subscribers of Airtel and Reliance Jio increased to more than 116.69 crore in March 2022. Airtel and Reliance Jio added new customers in the mobile telephony as well as fixed line service segment in March.

According to PTI, TRAI’s Subscriber Report in March said that ‘the number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,166.05 million at the end of February 2022 to 1,166.93 million at the end of March 2022’.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report said that between March and February, urban telephone subscriptions declined from 64.77 crores to 64.71 crores and rural subscriptions increased from 51.82 crores to 51.98 crores. According to the report, the total number of wireless subscribers increased to 1142 million in March, from 114.15 million in February.

In March, Airtel and Reliance Jio were the companies that got the benefit of new customers. Airtel net mobile customer addition in March was 22.55 lakh while Jio’s net addition was 12.6 lakh. Vodafone Idea had the biggest drop in mobile subscribers during that month. The company lost over 28.18 lakh customers in this month. Government-owned BSNL and MTNL suffered a loss of around 1.27 lakh and 3,101 mobile connections. Private telcos took advantage of the wireline (fixed line) segment. The number of wireline subscribers increased from 2.45 million in February to 2.48 million in March.

Reliance Jio continued its growth in the wireline segment with a net customer addition of 2.87 lakhs. Airtel added 83,700 new subscribers, Quadrant 19,683, Vodafone Idea 14,066 and Tata Teleservices 1,054 subscribers, BSNL 67,634 in this segment and MTNL 15,576 in this segment. Total broadband subscribers increased to 78.83 million in March from 78.33 million in February. The top 5 service providers accounted for 98.48 percent of the total broadband subscribers in March.

According to the TRAI report, ‘These service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (40.92 crore), Airtel (21.52 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.24 crore), BSNL (2.71 crore) and Atria Convergence (20 lakh).
