In the Gazette notification issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, it has been informed that air conditioning system will be installed for the cabin of N2 and N3 category vehicles in vehicles manufactured on or after October 1, 2025. Cabins equipped with air conditioning systems will be tested as per IS14618:2022.

In July, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that a draft notification to make air conditioning systems in the cabin of trucks mandatory has been approved. Nitin Gadkari said that truck drivers play a vital role in the transport sector, which is one of the most important sectors for India, and issues related to their working conditions and state of mind need to be addressed.
