A solar storm may hit the earth today, may cause big damage

A big solar storm can hit the Earth on 14 April. Scientists are expecting this. They believe that this event can cause possible damage to the Earth. Space agencies say that this geomagnetic solar storm can be powerful, because the Sun has been very active recently. He is shining brighter too. All this is also because the Sun is getting closer to its solar maxima in the 11-year solar cycle. Because of this he has been flashing with coronal mass ejection (CME) several times over the past few months.

NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are continuously monitoring the Sun’s CME flares. They have predicted that the most influential storm will hit Earth on April 14. This time there will be very strong wind in solar flares. NASA has expressed the possibility that this storm will intensify after hitting the Earth.

The Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India (CESSI) has written in a tweet that on April 14, 2022, with a speed of between 429 to 575 kilometers per second, this storm may have an impact on Earth. Because of this, there may be a mild to moderate geomagnetic disturbance.

Explosions occur every day due to magnetic activity on the outermost layer of the Sun’s atmosphere. Because of this, plasma and magnetic fields are thrown out into space. A geomagnetic storm occurs when a coronal mass ejection collides with the Earth’s magnetic field.

Due to this solar storm, the power grid and other resources on Earth can be affected. Its effect can be more visible on high altitude areas. There may be power outages and radio signals in some areas.

In December last year also, scientists had issued a warning of a solar storm. One expert said that very soon there could be at least two “big-flare players” or flares from the Sun. Space meteorologist Dr. Tamitha Skov had said that many sunspot clusters can also be seen from Earth. He had said that at present the focus of this storm is not towards the Earth, but we are on high alert. There are mainly 4 components of solar activity. These include solar flares, coronal mass ejections, high-speed solar wind and solar energy particles.

So, do these solar activities affect the Earth? According to NASA, solar flares affect the Earth only when they are towards the Earth’s side of the Sun. Similarly, coronal mass ejections will also affect the Earth only when the Sun comes out of the Earth’s part. The magnetic field ejected from the Sun and the huge cloud of plasma is called coronal mass ejection.
