The Tax Intelligence Agency (DRI) has investigated the seized 3,646 smartphones at Mumbai airport. It became known that the iPhone 13 was shipped from Hong Kong and imported to India. They were referred to as “memory cards”. Sending iPhones under a fake tag would likely avoid the customs duties that are charged on smartphones.
It is noted that law enforcement agencies in India also found 12 units of the recently announced Google Pixel 6 Pro model, which was not officially introduced to the Indian market. The smugglers also transported Apple Watch.
Earlier, Hong Kong customs discovered a consignment of contraband video cards in the waters near the local airport.
