In future updates to the PowerToys freeware suite, there will be a new feature that Windows 10 and Windows 11 users will appreciate. It’s called File Locksmith and will let you know which process is blocking the deletion of a particular file or folder.
File Locksmith will add a new item to the context menu, with which you can find out which of the processors in the system is preventing you from working with the file – delete, move or rename.
It has not yet been announced when the new version will be released and will be available to everyone. Considering that updates don’t come out too often, mangoes are talking about several weeks or even months of waiting.
The set of PowerToys utilities for Windows 10 and Windows 11 1 itself is the heir to the set of the same name for Windows XP. The current version expands the capabilities of the operating system and adds some handy little things, like window layouts or bulk file renaming.
At the moment, the current version of the utility package is 0.62.1.
