A remaster of the classic shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces was released on PC and consoles – the re-release came out 29 years after the original. Nightdive Studios, known to gamers for the remake of System Shock, was responsible for the game.
Star Wars: Dark Forces has been ported to the KEX team’s own engine. Innovations include: improved textures, redesigned lighting, support for ultra-high resolutions and frame rates, improved image rendering and additional visual effects. Control using a gamepad has also been introduced.
Players have warmly received the re-release, although the number of buyers, judging by 127 user reviews, is not so high. One way or another, gamers note that this is a good remaster, wonderfully conveying the old-school atmosphere with a much more pleasant picture. However, the game design of the “new product” comes from the same nineties.
