Former NPR Host David Greene Sues Google Over Alleged AI Voice Theft

Former NPR host David Greene has filed a lawsuit against Google, claiming the company used his voice in its note-taking service, NotebookLM, without permission.

NotebookLM can generate document summaries and present them in podcast-style audio. Greene said he was “shocked” when he heard a voice on the service that sounded “very similar to his own.” Friends and family even began asking whether he was working with Google. Following this, the journalist decided to take legal action.

Google has denied the allegations. The company stated that the voice was created using a recording from a “professional actor” who was paid for the work. However, the actor’s name has not been disclosed.

If both parties fail to reach an amicable settlement, the case will be heard in a California court.
