Android 17 to feature new blur UI, smarter screen recorder, and more: Here’s what’s new

Google is expected to launch its next mobile operating system, Android 17, in June this year. Several leaks about Android 17 have already surfaced online ahead of its launch. Now, a report from 9to5Google has revealed some significant changes related to the popular features and design of Android 17.

According to the report, the biggest visual change in Android 17 will be a new blur UI effect, which will give the entire system a more robust and refined look.

New Blur Effect in System UI

According to the leaked information, Android 17 will use transparent and blurred layers instead of solid colors.
This will be seen in the quick settings, power menu, and other system elements, with the wallpaper and app icons getting a subtle blur effect.

This blur effect is intended to work like a dynamic theme, resulting in a more appealing and premium look.

New Screen Recorder Design

The screen recording tool in Android 17 may also get a redesign. Instead of a persistent pop-up menu, a floating pill-shaped control is being considered.

In this new design, the user will have access to:

. Recording location
. Microphone recording
. Touch indication on the screen

These controls will remain available on the screen after recording starts, making it easier to manage the recording.

Additionally, during recording:

. The ability to draw doodles separately
. Monochrome mode
. Preview the video before sharing or editing

Android 17 may get a native app lock feature

Leaks also suggest that a native app lock feature may be added to Android 17. According to the report, a “Lock App” option will be visible when long-pressing an app icon. Users of this feature can securely and affordably access their Sense Classic apps without any third-party apps. Google is reportedly evaluating this functionality.

Other changes in the Android 17 UI:

• The Android 17 architecture will not be entirely new.
• It may resemble the split notification and quick monitor setup already present in custom Android versions from Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.
• Several visual glitches and technical bugs from the previous version have been fixed.
• The new two-panel system is now said to be much better and more stable.
• This split view is always visible on tablets.
• On foldable phones, the split layout depends on which part of the screen the user is interacting with.
