At the time of its introduction, NVIDIA TITAN GTX was one of the most powerful graphics cards on the market. For its 11th anniversary, PC Games Hardware journalists set out to check whether progress could bring the budget AMD Radeon RX 6400 video card closer to the flagship 11 years ago.
NVIDIA Geforce GTX TITAN was introduced in February 2013 at a price of €899. The “heart” of the video card with 6 GB of memory on a 384-bit bus was a 28 nm GK110-430 graphics processor with a maximum clock frequency of 980 MHz and 2688 CUDA cores. At the time of release, the video card with a power consumption of up to 250 W was considered the fastest single-chip model.
AMD Radeon RX 6400 is a modern budget model for home and office PCs. It was released in January 2022 and received a 6-nanometer Navi 24 XL GPU with a maximum clock speed of 2321 MHz. Its video memory is 4 GB (64-bit bus), and the TDP is only 53 W.
Of the 20 test games on the GTX TITAN, only five were able to run – over the past years, not only the hardware, but also the drivers have become outdated. Based on the results of all tests , the former NVIDIA flagship was inferior to the new “budget” AMD in most disciplines. The exception was the game Crysis Remastered – and then taking into account GPU overclocking (MAX OC mark on the graph).
In terms of average fps in supported games, the 2013 card at stock frequencies proved to be at the level of the budget RX 6400. The latter, despite the formally weak hardware, took the lead in 9 out of 12 tests. This, according to journalists, clearly demonstrates the progress of consumer GPUs with each new generation of iron.
