Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chowdhary, while replying to a question whether the government is considering releasing arrears of pensioners, told the House that due to the adverse financial impact of the pandemic in 2020 and the welfare measures taken by the government Its financial impact is continuing even after the financial year 2020-21, therefore it was not considered appropriate to issue arrears of dearness allowance to central employees and dearness relief to pensioners. Central employees-pensioners around arrears

At present, 38 percent dearness allowance is being given to central employees. The last dearness allowance was increased in September 2022. But the central employees are waiting for arrears of 18 months. The Government acknowledges that representations have been received from various organizations of Central Government employees and pensioners including the National Council (JCM) for payment of arrears of DA for 18 months between January 2020 and June 2021 to Central Government employees and pensioners. Many organizations are involved, including the National Federation of Indian Railway Men.

Employees union unhappy with the response from the government
