4 children died and 20 others became ill due to alleged food poisoning at a government rehabilitation center of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday evening, when children with about 20 special needs living in the center suddenly started getting sick, they were taken to Lokbandhu Hospital. Officials have given this information on Thursday.
Dr. Rajiv Kumar Dixit, Medical Superintendent of Lokbandhu Raj Narayan United Hospital, told the agency on Thursday, ‘On Tuesday evening, about 20 children were brought to the hospital from the rehabilitation center. All these children are mentally handicapped. When children arrived, they were seriously dehydrated.
After the incident, local authorities have started investigation. The District Magistrate of Lucknow has formed a committee to find out the cause of alleged food poisoning. Samples of food have been collected from the rehabilitation center for investigation. To investigate the incident, the team of Municipal Corporation and Food Department has also been deployed and it will also be investigated that the information of the incident was given to the hospital at the right time.
CMO Narendra Bahadur Singh Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob reached Lucknow DM Visakh with Principal Secretary Leena Johri at the hospital. While meeting the children, he has instructed them to know their well-being and give better treatment to the doctor. The CMO said that as soon as the children get information about getting sick, instructions have been given to give better treatment to all children. At present, more than 15 children are undergoing treatment at Lok Bandhu Hospital.
