300 electric autos will run in Delhi, women will be drivers, permit issued

Delhi Metro has allotted 300 permits for electric autos. All these electric autos will be driven by women and will provide last mile connectivity service to the passengers. The permits for e-autos have been given to ETO Motors, the electric mobility solutions and service provider. Under the first phase, 50 e-autos will start operating in August. In its statement, ETO Motors has said that the company has entered into an agreement with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation and MOWO. MOWO is a non-governmental organization that promotes safe transportation for women.

According to the statement, MOWO will train women drivers for e-mobility services. The objective of this initiative is to create a better source of income for 300 women and create opportunities for them. The colors of the women-driven e-autos will be blue and purple. Delhi Metro (DMRC) has confirmed the grant of the permit.

Dipankar Tiwari, Non-Executive Vice President of the company said that our commitment to empower women is truly unique. He said that ETO Motors has trained 100 young unemployed women to drive electric autos in Kevadiya, Gujarat. Tiwari said that now we are adding 300 electric autos in metro stations in Delhi, which will be operated by women. These women drivers will provide last mile connectivity to the passengers using the Metro service.

To ensure that women drivers do not face any problem in auto charging, ETO’s EV charging solution ‘Thunderbox’ will be installed at various metro stations, residential societies and malls in Delhi to provide easy access to women drivers. The Delhi government had invited online applications for e-autos in October and November last year.

Officials said 19,846 applications were received from male applicants for 2,855 e-autos and 743 applications were received from female applicants for 1,406 e-autos. Later, the government issued a statement saying that 663 e-autos under women quota were allotted on March 3 this year to DMRC with permission to operate through an aggregator or operator.
