2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Review: Safer than ever before and a value for money small car

New Delhi, Ankit Dubey.

Maruti Suzuki Alto, this name has become so popular and remains a brand in itself. It has been more than 20 years since the Alto was launched in India and in these 20 years I don’t think anyone knows about this vehicle. More than 43 lakh Altos have been sold in the Indian market and the powerful Alto ie K10 has played an important role in this. The vehicle remained at the top position in the top 10 sales every month and every year till the Alto K10 was discontinued at the end of 2019. Relaunched after two and a half years and now this vehicle has become safer than before with a new avatar. We have driven both manual and automatic variants of this vehicle on the roads of Kochi and you will know in this review what we think about this vehicle.

What were the changes in the design? The 2022 Alto K10 has now completely changed in appearance. Looks quite fresh. The boxy design has been kept less and the curves have increased more than the old generation. Looking at the face, you get to see a large single grille which comes with a honey-comb pattern. The Suzuki logo and grille are visible separately. The headlights have also been given new and in this too you get to see the use of honey comb pattern.

13-inch steel wheels are standard on the side and the spare wheel is also being given to you of the same 13-inch. However, these are not standard on these wheels and you also get to see these wheel covers with honey-comb pattern. The door handles are in body color and the ORVMs are painted black which spoils the side profile a bit. The company could have given body color ORVMs here. Longer than the old Alto. The wheelbase is also more visible. Coming to the rear profile, you get to see the use of honeycomb pattern even in the tail lamps given here with a very simple look.

What’s special about the interior? The way you get to see the exterior of the new Alto K10 is completely new. Similarly, you will get to see a complete change in the interior as well. The big change is the 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, which we have seen in other Maruti vehicles as well, but this is the first time in the Alto K10. Not only this, it also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, the rear parking camera is lacking, especially in the top variant. Apart from this, the company has given steering mounted controls in this top variant. Apart from this, you are being given a 12V socket with USB charging port in it. Like the old model, the AC manual is available, but now it looks a bit better in appearance. However, in the standard base model, you are being given basic features like air condition, power windows and power steering.

Good leg room is provided in the second row. Shoulder room is also very good to see. Two people can easily sit, but 3 people can be a bit difficult. However, here you do not get power windows and no adjustable headrest, which I feel needs a little attention from the company on the rear seats. Apart from this, as a feature, the company has given 4 speakers for the music system for the first time in the segment. Talking about the storage space, there is no storage space available on the back doors, but you do get decent storage space on the next doors. The boot space is also available at 214 liters and you get a parcel tray in the top variant.

Engine and performance:The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has a new 1000 cc dual jet, dual VVT engine. This engine generates power of 66.62 PS and torque of 89 Nm. The engine of the new Maruti Alto has become quite refined as compared to the old Alto and also looks more powerful to run. The special thing about this engine is that if you drive it in the highway, traffic or city, then the behavior of the engine claims to give you better performance. The company has also done a lot of work on NVH levels. Whether it’s a tortoise-like theme speed or a hare-like speed, the Alto gives you a better driving experience in both the cases. The manual gearbox works much better. Changing gears frequently will not be a problem. However, the engine of the vehicle starts demanding to upshift and downshift from first to third gear very quickly. The clutch travel is also not much. At the same time, if you drive it with AGS i.e. Auto Gear Shift, then here Alto gives a lot of effortless experience. However, if you try to drive away from the theme pace at a fast pace, then you are seen swinging here. That is, the gear shift does not appear to be happening that fast. Well.. if you drive in the city then you will not have any problem. Rather, this transmission keeps you quite happy.

In terms of mileage with both the gearboxes, manual and AGS give you a comfortable range of 23-24 kmpl on highways in rear world condition. At the same time, you will easily get a mileage of 21-22 kmpl in city condition.

Talking about the ride quality, the company has also worked in its suspension with the new generation and you get much better ride quality than before. Apart from the bumpy road, if big breakers also come in front of you at once, then this vehicle does not scare you at all and you can easily cross those difficult roads. Talking about braking, the braking of the new Alto also works well and you do not see any problem during braking even at high speed. Overall, the car is very good to drive whether you drive AGS or manual.

more secure than everMore than 15 safety features have been given in the new Alto K10. It gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors, which are standard on the vehicle. The car has been built by the company on the new 5th generation Heartect platform, which comes with high-strength steel. Because of this, this car has also become more secure than before.

our decision The price of the new 2022 Alto K10 starts at Rs 3.99 Lakh, all the way up to Rs 5.83 Lakh (ex-showroom). The company has given 4 manual and 2 AGS trims in it. AGS is only available in VXi and VXi+. In the Indian market, this vehicle competes with the Renault Kwid. Overall, the new Alto K10 has become much better than before, especially when it comes to design and features. Not only this, it also looks more powerful than before in running. Some features are lacking, but if you ignore those things, then it is seen that according to the price at which the company has launched it, this vehicle is completely worth the money.
