In 2014, Maruti Suzuki surprised people by introducing the 1.0-litre engine of the K10 series in the Alto. Due to the large engine and aggressive design, it became increasingly popular among the people but was discontinued in April 2020 due to BS6 emission norms.
The 2022 Maruti Alto K10 has now been brought with a new design. But will it be able to maintain the quintessence of its old model or will it attract a new customer segment with the new design? To know this, we drove 2022 Maruti Alto K10 in Kochi.
2022 Maruti Alto K10 Design & Features – Attractive and Sufficient
The 2022 Maruti Alto K10 has been given a simple design and some attractive points have been given that have the potential to drag customers to the showroom to buy the first car with a design like the Celerio.
The Alto K10 gets a bigger grille and the Suzuki badge is placed above it. It gets wraparound halogen headlights which are placed on the bonnet. The Alto K10 gets a front bumper and thinner central intake, which is placed under the new grille.
Some character lines have been given in the 2022 Maruti Alto K10 which also includes the shoulder line. It gets indicators in the side fenders and a smaller 13-inch steel wheel with thinner tyres.
The small integrated spoiler has been given at the rear of the 2022 Maruti Alto K10, along with a square taillight and brake light at the top. Like the front, the rear bumper comes with an attractive shape.
As soon as you enter the Alto K10, its black interior theme welcomes you. But silver highlights have been given near its steering wheel and new touchscreen infotainment.
Coming to the new infotainment system, the Alto K10 sports a 7-inch touchscreen display with support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its infotainment setup is connected to a 4-speaker audio system.
The top-spec VXI+ model on the Alto K10 gets a digital instrument cluster, which is placed ahead of the steering wheel, which comes with the previously mentioned design accents and phone and volume control buttons.
The seats get a gray central insert which goes well with the dark black interior theme and looks attractive. The seat offers ample comfort and to make it even better, the driver seat has a height adjustment facility. There might be a lack of space for three passengers in the rear seat, but there is enough knee and headroom for the common Indian. However, a problem for the rear seating can be the roll down window which is made for cast cutting.
For safety, the Alto K10 has dual airbags, front seat belt pretensioners, ABS with EBD.
Maruti Suzuki offers two customization packs – Glinto and Impacto – for the new Alto K10, with the first adding chrome which is very much liked by the Indian customers. Alto K10 is available in 6 color options – Solid White, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Sizzling Red, Speedy Blue and Earth Gold.
2022 Maruti Alto K10 Engine & Gearbox Options
The 2022 Maruti Alto K10 is powered by Maruti Suzuki’s latest K10C DualJet, Dual VVT three-cylinder engine. This new 998 cc engine produces 66 Bhp of power at 5500 rpm and 89 Newton meter of torque at 3500 rpm.
Power is sent to the front wheel via a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The power figures don’t impress that much and shouldn’t as the car has been tuned for mileage (due to thinner tires and smaller wheels) and 24.39 km/l in manual variant and 24.90 km/l in AMT variant. liter mileage.
Talking about the size of the 2022 Maruti Alto K10, it is 3530 mm long, 1490 mm wide, 1520 mm high. The wheelbase of Maruti Alto K10 is 2380 mm and the weight of the car has been kept at 1150 kg. The new Maruti Alto K10 is 85 mm longer, 45 mm higher and the wheelbase is 20 mm longer than the old model. The Maruti Alto K10 gets smaller 13-inch steel wheels mated to 145/80 R13 tyres.
2022 Maruti Alto K10 Driving Experience
The new DualJet Dual VVT engine of the Maruti Alto K10 provides enough power to drive the car on city streets. The engine gives a great response as soon as you accelerate with the foot, due to which the Maruti Alto K10 easily crosses the speed of three figures on the highway. However, the Alto K10 takes some time to reach that speed when slightly under load and the engine makes little noise at higher RPMs.
Of the two gearboxes, we found the manual gearbox a bit easier, given a lighter clutch for those who want to enjoy its driving but this shift can be annoying at times. For those people who want to go from one place to another like commute daily, without any tension, then AMT gearbox is better for them. However, the AMT gearbox jerks when shifting at low speeds. However, if you press the pedals louder, the AMT allows a gear shift down to give enough acceleration to overtake.
Their brakes are more than enough for a light car like the Alto K10. The brake pedal does not travel that much and is easy to operate. The steering wheel appears to be reversed. The driver has to keep an eye on it at all times to keep it on the straight path. We also found it a bit heavy, which is not good for a first time car buyer.
The best thing about Alto K10 is its suspension. The Alto K10 rides smoothly on smooth roads but the new hatchback maintains its position at low to medium speeds on rough roads.
The suspension setup of the Alto K10 at high speeds on rough roads can disturb the passengers sitting inside. Due to the light weight of the Alto K10, there is no body roll which gives confidence to the driver to drive on the edges.
For an entry-level car, the Alto K10 has a decent NVH level and the engine sounds only at high rpm. In terms of safety, adding a rear view camera would have been a better option as it would have been easier for a first time car buyer to park a tight space.
