2022 Audi Q7 Facelift Review: The Grand SUV Returns With Powerful Petrol Engine

New Delhi, Ankit Dubey. Though it took Audi India time to revamp its line-up in the last two years due to the BS6 norms, now the Audi range with new looks and new flair seems to be hitting the Indian roads with new beats in their chest. This year, the facelifted version of the second generation Audi Q7, a new and powerful offering to the SUV lineup, was launched. From politicians and veteran businessmen to celebrities, the Audi Q7 continues to be the favorite SUV of these people in the luxury SUV space. However, now its diesel engine will be greatly missed. Well, even though the Volkswagen Group is now completely dependent on petrol engines and that is why the new Audi Q7 also comes with only the powerful petrol engine that we are reviewing for you.

In terms of looks and design, the new Audi Q7 will look similar to the pre-facelift model in many ways. Coming with an athletic and muscular design, this big SUV definitely shows some changes inside itself in the form of facelift. The large grille, chrome outline and vertical slats make this grille really awesome. For this reason, the road presence of this vehicle from the front side remains quite tremendous.

The brand new headlamps look pretty and get Matrix LED lights, but that too only in the Technology trim. Let us tell you, the Audi Q7 comes in two variants – Premium Plus and Technology. We have this technology variant. Dynamic turn indicators are available in it along with headlights. It gets 19-inch alloy wheels as standard and the wheel arches are round. The wheel arches are fine, but I didn’t like the design of the alloy wheels.

The rear also gets a few minor changes and gets a chrome strip that is seen running across the width of the vehicle along with the slim taillights. And dynamic indicators are also available in the rear. Although this SUV comes in 5 colors, but here we have this Navara Blue color.

interior and technologyIn the interior, you see the Audi Q7 very premium. A completely hi-tech cockpit is visible and the fit and finish has been done very well. First of all, you notice here these two touchscreens where the buttons have been used very little. With the 10.1-inch screen, you get to see acoustic and haptic feedback, which are quite good to use. The bottom screen which is 8.6 inches, you get to see the system of climate control. Not only this, both these screens are very responsive and the clarity is tremendous. However, it doesn’t get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

I think Audi should think about this feature. The instrument cluster i.e. virtual cockpit is standard and it looks great. You can also see it by enlarging it. It is an expensive SUV but the steering wheel does not have an expensive feature with no electric adjustments. If it is the top variant, then you also get premium Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system in it. You get a wireless charger in it but the phone charges quite slowly. Apart from this, you also get Audi smartphone interface and Hey Audi voice command feature with the infotainment system.

You get upholstery with a mix of beige and brown color, which looks premium and the seats are also very comfortable. New feature and it gets air ionizer with fragrance which keeps the cabin fresh.

If you come in the second row, then the space is the space here. You get great leg space, knee room, head room and shoulder room. However, a little more work could have been done on the Thai support. The cup holders look great with the center armrest. 4-zone climate control is available and here too you get an acoustic feel on the touchscreen. It gets a large panoramic sunroof and curtains for privacy, which you can apply manually.

Third row seats are also provided so that you can accommodate more passengers in the Q7 even if for short distances as traveling long distances will be difficult here. Apart from this, 471 liters of boot space is available and foot-opening gesture control has been given for the boot lid.

Engine and performance

In the Q7, you now get a new petrol engine which is now bigger and more powerful. Whereas earlier you used to get a bigger 3.0 liter diesel engine and a smaller 2.0 liter petrol engine. The diesel engine of this car was tremendous. Well, this new 3,000 cc turbo petrol engine also comes with 6 cylinders that generates 335 bhp power and 500 Nm torque at 5,200-6,400 rpm. The engine is very refined and silent. That is, if you run it comfortably in the average city condition, then the sound of the engine is not heard in the cabin at all. The engine is so flexible that if you try to fill it with high speed, then it starts showing its sporty style. This is also one of the reasons why people who loved its diesel engine will now fall in love with its petrol engine too. It takes 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph, which is enough for this big SUV. Top speed is 250 kmph.

Mates to an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, which does a great job for the low-end torque of the turbocharged V6. This 6 cylinder engine does not have any cylinder deactivation technology that we have seen in many vehicles of Volkswagen Group, but it is fitted with a 48V mild hybrid battery, due to which you definitely get better mileage. In traffic or red light, as soon as you remove the foot from the accelerator and put it on the brake, the car turns off the engine for about 35 to 40 seconds and the engine starts itself as soon as you remove the foot from the brake pedal.

Now if you drive such a luxury SUV, I don’t think you need to think about the fuel. In this, you get the Quattro all-wheel drive system which helps you to give enough traction on the challenging terrains.

In the Q7, you sit very high i.e. high position seating is available and adaptive air suspension has been used in it, due to which you experience a very luxurious ride quality. Small and big potholes will only be visible to you on the outside but you will not feel it inside. 7 driving modes are available Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency, Individual, On Road and Off-Road Surface, Now there are so many modes so you can choose any one according to your need and driving behavior. Otherwise, put my favorite auto mode and leave it on the car, it will keep watching by itself. The steering input also changes with each driving mode. Overall, you can see a great juggling between fun and comfort from such a large SUV.

In terms of safety, this vehicle has been given 8 airbags, steering assist feature with lane departure warning. Along with this, you also get 360 degree camera view in it. However, the camera quality is not looking as good as other vehicles in the segment.

our decisionThe Audi Q7 is priced at Rs 82.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Premium Plus variant and Rs 89.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Technology variant. Only you will remember the diesel engine in this vehicle. Rest of the petrol engine is quite powerful, powerful to drive, comfortable and fun. In the Indian market, this vehicle competes with BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Volvo XC 90.
