Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD unveiled the BYD Destroyer 05 2023 yesterday, April 28. The new vehicle is a compact sedan and the first model of the new BYD Warship series, a line of electric vehicles and PHEV hybrids aimed at a younger audience.
Like other models recently released by BYD, the price of the new version of the Destroyer 05 has been reduced (by $3,000) compared to its predecessors. This is the result of price wars in China, where each automaker cuts prices to sell more models. The new Destroyer 05 is offered in five trim levels, with prices ranging from $14,700 to $21,500.
Debuting at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show, the original Destroyer 05 was launched in March 2022 and was based on the BYD Qin Plus DM-i. The Destroyer 05 2023 has a streamlined coupe sedan shape with large vertical air intakes. With dimensions of 4780 x 1837 x 1495 mm, it has a wheelbase of 2718 mm.
The BYD Destroyer 05 is equipped with BYD’s EHS DM-i hybrid system. Both versions are equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 180 hp. and 197 hp respectively. The smallest battery provides a purely electric range of 55 km, while the larger one allows a range of up to 120 km on electricity.
The BYD Destroyer 05 features low fuel consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 km and a range of more than 1200 km with a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.3 seconds. The older model supports 17 kW DC fast charging.
All models come standard with the intelligent DiLink system, which supports features such as voice interaction, karaoke and over-the-air updates. Drivers will also get a remote control feature using an Apple Watch or iPhone. The equipment includes a swivel 12.8-inch screen. The top equipment has the function of heating the front seats.
