M.Video-Eldorado analysts shared interesting statistics on the Russian smartphone market.
Smartphones with eSIM (in addition to the standard SIM slot) are becoming more and more popular in the Russian market, but at the moment, only models with traditional SIM format have an advantage – such gadgets account for more than 80% of sales. This year, approximately every sixth smartphone purchased in Russia came with an eSIM, which is about 2 million devices.
It was calculated that in total since 2018, when sales of the first models with support for a virtual SIM card (iPhone XR, iPhone XS, XS Max) started, about 11.5 million such devices have already been sold in Russia.
With eSIM, consumers mainly have access to Apple smartphones, Samsung flagships and foldable smartphones, gadgets from Huawei and Motorola. The best-selling such smartphone in recent years has been the iPhone 11.
It is expected that the first devices that work only with eSIM and without a slot for a physical card will soon appear in Russia – smartphones from the iPhone 14 line.
