1 lakh electric vehicles hit the roads of Karnataka, highest EV registration after UP and Delhi

Sales record broken in March 2022

The 1 lakh electric vehicles registered in Karnataka include 73,453 two-wheelers, 7,763 four-wheelers, 17,357 e-rickshaws and 101 e-buses. The highest sales of electric vehicles were recorded in March 2022. 7,880 electric vehicles were registered in the state this month. Talking about other states, Maharashtra has 88,479, Bihar 73,259, Tamil Nadu 71,393, Rajasthan 65,080, Assam 55,974 and Gujarat 28,637 EVs.

Electric vehicles are exempted from road tax and registration fee in Karnataka. In many other states, along with exemption of road tax and registration fee on electric vehicles, the benefit of subsidy is also being given. The maximum subsidy of Rs 30,000 is being given on electric vehicles in Delhi, while in Maharashtra, the subsidy of Rs 25,000 can be availed on buying an electric vehicle.

Electric vehicle sales tripled

The sale of electric vehicles in the country has tripled. If we look at the data, the total electric vehicle sales in the financial year 2021-22 were 4,29,217 units, as compared to 1,34,821 units during the financial year 2020-21. At the same time, in the financial year 2019-20, the total sales of electric vehicles were 1,68,300 units.

Retail sales of electric two-wheelers stood at 2,31,338 units in the last financial year, which is five times higher than 41,046 units sold in the financial year 2020-21. Hero Electric led the segment with sales of 65,303 units capturing 28.23 per cent share in the domestic market.

It was followed by Okinawa Autotech, which sold 46,447 units in the last fiscal. Ampere Vehicles secured the third position with sales of 24,648 units. Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather Energy stood at the fourth position with sales of 19,971 units in 2021-22.

Bengaluru-based Ola Electric stood at the sixth position with sales of 14,371 units, while TVS Motor Company secured the seventh position in the last fiscal with 9,458 units registered.
